There’s something about summer that has me hankering for a refreshing Gin and Tonic. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be ditching the cucumber and cloves for lashings of summery lemon, lime or orange. Totally tropical! Make sure your gin is resting on something as citrusy as these Citrus coasters!

To demonstrate the versatility of this pattern, I have used 2 different yarns, and 2 different hook sizes. It doesn’t matter which combination you use as the pattern is the same. But please note that the coasters will come out different sizes depending on your yarn weight.
You will need:
- Yarn Needle for those pesky ends! (These with big loops for eyes are my favourite add-on EVER!)
- A trusty pair of scissors
Orange Coaster (Aran Weight Yarn)
- 4mm crochet hook (I use a KnitPro Waves hook which you can get here)
- Any Aran / Worsted Weight yarn. I used Caron Simply Soft in Neon Orange
- Any white DK or Aran yarn. I used Stylecraft Special DK in White.
Lemon or Lime Coaster (DK Weight Yarn)
- 3.5mm crochet hook (I use a KnitPro Waves hook which you can get here)
- Any DK Weight yarn. I used Stylecraft Special DK in White, as well as Citron for the Lemon and Grass Green for the Lime.
This pattern is written in UK terms and is worked in the round (so you will not join and chain to start a new round but instead work in a spiral) .
Special Stitch (SpSt): Insert hook into centre hole of coaster (Magic circle at beginning), pull yarn through hole, yarn over, pull through all stitches on hook.
The special stitch does not count as a stitch when you are counting.
Make sure to change colours on the last yarn over of your stitch.
DC = double crochet (UK) (US = single crochet)
SpSt = special stitch (as outlined above)
Gauge is not important for these coasters.
Round 1: In white- create a magic circle and 6DC into centre before pulling tight (6). (Ensure there is still some space to get your hook through for the SpSts in Round 11)
Round 2: In main colour yarn– 2DC into each st around (12)
Round 3: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next st] repeat 5 more times (18)
Round 4: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next 2 sts] repeat 5 more times (24)
Round 5: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next 3 sts] repeat 5 more times (30)
Round 6: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next 4 sts] repeat 5 more times (36)
Round 7: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next 5 sts] repeat 5 more times (42)
Round 8: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next 6 sts] repeat 5 more times (48)
Round 9: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next 7 sts] repeat 5 more times (54)
Round 10: [2DC into next st, 1DC in next 8 sts] repeat 5 more times (60)
Round 11: Switch back to white yarn– [1DC into next st, Sp-St, and 1DC into same st (counts as 2 sts), 1DC in next 9sts] repeat 5 more times (66)
Round 12: Switch back to main colour yarn-[2DC into next st, 1DC in next 10 sts] repeat 5 more times (72).
