Napier is full of beautiful scenery, vineyards as far as the eye can see, and luckily for me: this adorable little yarn store nestled amongst the Art Deco beauty all around.

We met Christine, one of the owners of the store in between trips to vineyards and cideries (Zeffyr Cider is amazing by the way!) Christine owns the store with her Scottish husband Paul and traded in the highlands for the billowing landscapes of New Zealand a few years ago to keep this store in the family for over 25 years.

Wool ‘N Things has an amazing selection of Kiwi yarns and happens to be the place where I picked up some little acrylic bonbons for my Polyneisan-inspired headband, and some possum yarn- yes, actual possum!

The possum is blended with merino fibres as the possum is too short on its own, and it makes this yarn super soft and super warm! I’m excited to whip them up into some socks!

Wool No Things stocks everything from New Zealand yarn, including Loyal and Touch Yarns, to well-known mainstream international brands like Schachenmayr.

The store also specialise in alterations and sewing machine services and repairs. So this is a definite one-stop shop for all you could need to make your own garments.

Speaking of which, check out these handcrafted crocheted beauties that hang in the store for some inspiration:

The store runs workshops too! Everyone loves a good workshop! Learn everything from sewing to knitting! The store has plenty of space and it’s hard to not get sucked in and spend all day here.

Christine was a pleasure to chat to and I recommend this store to anyone visiting the North Island of New Zealand! If not for the scenery, definitely for the yarn.

    Hi Aly

Thanks for the review of your visit to our local shop. I should have cleared the cobwebs from the sign outside though… I’ll get the window cleaner on to them at his next visit!

    Take care, and happy crocheting.
