Whenever I think about being a kid, I think of Disneyworld. I never went and wished I had so badly! So as I whip up my Christmas hats for all the children in my life, I thought it was only apt that this hat is named after the home of Disneyworld. So here you have the Orlando Hat.

Imagine my disappointment when I found out the DMC Toppers I bought in the US were only designed to be knit. There’s not enough yarn to even crochet a basic Toddler-sized hat! So with a pencil and some sketching later, I give you the Orlando Hat!

*Thank you to my wonderful testers. The picture above was taken prior to testing and while is a suitable fit for me, might not be for everyone, so that pattern has been adjusted to suit a wider audience- all thanks to tester feedback!

Notes:

This hat is written in UK terms with US terms given in the Abbreviations section below.

Please note that from Round 4 you are working in the 3rd Loop Only. To better illustrate this, please see diagram below:

I used a semi-pooling yarn hence the Stripy effect of the hat. Please note that you will only get this effect if you use a pooling yarn.

When stretched the circumferences are as follows: Toddler size = 20″; Child size = 21″; Adult size = 23″

The sizes will be outlined in the pattern in this format: Toddler (Child, Adult)

Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain

St = stitch

Sts = stitches

SlSt = slip stitch

DC = double crochet (US = single crochet)

BLO = Back loop only

BS = bobble stitch. Yarn over and pull through st so that you have three loops on your hook, next yarn over pull through the first TWO loops, yarn over insert hook in same stitch, yarn over pull through first two loops, yarn over insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through first two hoops, yarn over insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through first 2 loops, you should now have 5 loops total, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.) Do not ch1 at the end.

HTC = half treble crochet (US = half double crochet)

HTC3L = half treble (US = half double) crochet in the 3rd loop only.

HTC2tog3L = half treble (US= half double) crochet 2 sts together (decrease) in the 3rd loop only.

    Hi! There may be a typo in your pattern above. For the brim on row 3 it says to repeat row 2 until you reach 52 (54,58) rows. (8) Is it supposed to be 8 rows and 52,54,58 stitches? Thanks!
